Nokia’s first podcast, built from scratch to spotlight fans, developers, and influencers around the world.
As podcasting emerged as an exciting new medium, I saw an opportunity to bring it into the Nokia marketing mix. I had already launched my own show, Radio Free Finland, focused on life as an expat — so I understood both the power of podcasting and the mechanics behind making it work.
With 3G technologies making it easier than ever to download episodes on the go, the timing was perfect. I’d already launched the S60 Blogs, and adding a podcast was a natural next step to connect with our growing mobile phone community.
The Voice of S60 Podcast was designed for Nokia fans, influencers, and developers — the people who lived and breathed our products. Each episode featured a conversation with someone from this vibrant community. Sometimes I’d record in a studio at Nokia’s HQ; other times, I brought my mobile rig on the road to global events, capturing interviews live on location.
I handled the podcast end to end — booking the guests, hosting the interviews, editing the audio, and promoting each episode. Our key metrics included subscribers, downloads, and earned media. In many cases, guests would share their own episodes with their audiences, amplifying both the podcast and the Nokia brand.
What I learned is that podcasting isn’t just fun — it’s an inexpensive and highly personal way to reach your audience, build community, and create content that travels far beyond the recording booth.
